About UsIt is rather hard to sum us both up in an about us page but I would say that first and foremost we are explorers. We are passionate about travel and exploring new and unique places all around the globe. We hope that you learn a little bit about our backgrounds that give us our current views on travel and exploration.
About Us: Rebecca:
I would say that I was born with the travel bug. New and interesting places have always appealed to me. In 2nd grade I had a student teacher that spoke German and I seemed to pick it up with ease. When I was 15 I participated in NACEL Student Exchange program living with a host family in Regensburg, Germany for 35 days. After High School Graduation, I helped to organize another trip to Germany, this time to Düsseldorf, to stay with a host family for 1 month. This host family has been in my life ever since.I choose to attend Central College in Pella, IA mainly due to their study abroad programs. I spent 2 months at the Goethe Institute in Prien am Cheimsee and following that spent the semester in Vienna, Austria attending the University of Vienna. As an International Studies Major, I thought it would be valuable to take another study abroad trip, this time to Merida, Mexico. I spent one semester down there studying language, culture and history. During both of these programs I had the opportunity to travel around the region, meeting new people and exploring many new places. There is always something to love everywhere you go, but some places you just can’t help falling in love with.
The explorer was born. I love planning vacations and going to new places to explore. Even though I love seeing some of the major sites in each city that would be “touristy areas” I try to get away from that to really explore local culture. Some of the best discoveries, food and fun times have been had off the beaten path. So after I finished my Master's of Arts in Organizational Management, I recruited my mom to start Explorer's Travel Group About Us: Janet:
As a child, I grew up is a small rural community in Iowa. One of the things I always looked forward to doing was going in to town once a month. My Mom, aunt and grandmother would load all 9 of us kids plus themselves into my aunt's station wagon and off to town we would go. My mother didn’t even know how to drive until I was 16. My favorite thing to do was to go the hardware store and look at all the post cards. I would tell my grandmother that some day I would visit those places. She would laugh and say you do that. At that time nobody in my family had even been on an airplane.When I was 8 years old my dad's parents moved to Arizona. Every year we would all pile into the car the afternoon of Christmas Eve and drive all night to get to Arizona for Christmas day. I loved when we would stop and I would get a chance to look around and investigate every new plant or animal that I saw. I loved the mountains, the smell of the air and the fresh fruit growing in my grandparent’s back yard.
The first time I left the country was when my daughter was studying in Mexico. She told me to bring a specific bag she left at home. I guess I didn’t understand her correctly because I took that bag, but I also brought my 2 brown suitcases from the 70’s. The look on her face was priceless when she saw me with those two suitcases coming out of the airport. I guess the joke was on me because we stayed at an eco-hotel and I had to walk through the jungle with both of those suitcases and lug them all over the Yucatan Peninsula. Since then, my daughter and I have traveled to more places (with the correct luggage) to investigate even more things, people, food, shops, plants, and animals.
